Race Reactions- New Hampshire: This Is Why I Like The Chase
Well, what do we have here??? By golly, we have a race for the Chase. Earlier this season, it looked like Kyle Busch would set sail and win the Cup in a walk. Then along comes Carl Edwards. NASCAR’s Opie Taylor gives Busch a literal bump and run for his money and things get interesting. Oh, but wait, there’s always those powerhouses in sports that show up at showtime: cue Jimmie Johnson. The two-time defending champ adds a story line by trying to become just the second driver in NASCAR history to hoist 3 shiny ones in a row.
Enter Greg Biffle. Who? Yeah, That guy that Sterling Marlin once called a “bug eyed dummy.” Excuse me while I boast, but didn’t I say in a post earlier this week (you can look it up) that The Biff has been amazingly consistent and could be a top 5 finisher by Homestead?
Yeah, I think I did.
Only the pride of Vancouver, Washington really knows whether or not he was sandbagging on Johnson, waiting for that opportune moment to blast past the “48.” It looked like to me, Biffle has made a real hard effort earlier to get Johnson. In fact, “Champ” says he was better on the long runs, and he was getting worried about getting caught in the short runs.
By golly that’s what happened.
So much for my Tony Stewart prediction. Oh well, I don’t care. All I know is we have a chase in our hands, one we wouldn’t have under the old system. Folks, this is what the Chase is all about. A great regular season gives you an advantage going into the stretch run, and besides you can’t be crappy and get there in the first place. Then, after that, anything can happen. Just ask New England’s 16-0 Super Bowl runner-up team. Or that Seattle Mariners team that won 116 games and didn’t even get within a sniff of the World Series. Besides in my mind, and I know my fellow Jeff Gordon fans will curcify me over this: but the Chase has NEVER PRODUCED A WINNER WHO DIDN’T DESERVE IT.
IF you REALLY think that Jeff Gordon was more deserving of a NASCAR title than Jimmie Johnson was in 2007, you’ve been smoking too much of my home state’s #1 cash crop. Ya know, the one we call “cannibus.”
I feel bad for Junior. Today for Earnhardt was one more airing of a re-run more annoying than n old “Friends” episode. Oh well, thanks to the Chase, Junior will live to fight another day, ‘cuz it’s wide open, baby.
I’m quite sure the Busch Bashers are doing a happy dance over Kyle’s sorry run. It’s like the immortal Mark Knopfler of “Dire Straits” fame once wrote…
…sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug.”
Fine race today, folks, fine race. Did you see that battle between Burton and Earnhardt? What about Smoke and Gordon?
With the exception of Shrub’s off-day and some fumbles by the Hamlin and Bowyer’s teams, the Chase racers proved they belonged. Give props especially to Bowyer for the rebound.
The fun’s just getting started boys and girls.
