When they were working on the original version of the box on wheels, it had a spoiler on the back like the template racer and the traditional front air dam. Everything was leading up to that being the final product until some money appeared in the NASCAR coffers and then suddenly the wing and splitter was mandated. I'm hoping a return to the front air dam and rear spoiler will actually give us some real racing again instead of 495 miles of single file parades and 5 miles of racing.

The one thing I do not like about this new spoiler is that it's another mandated part that can only be purchased from NASCAR, just like the car itself, and will be over-inflated in price, just like the car. This will not save the teams any money, just like the car hasn't saved them any money. Not at $200,000 a pop with no engine versus $150,000 for the template racer with an engine. The teams need to be able to tinker with the spoiler angles in conjunction with the suspension to improve the performance. Mandated parts, settings, spring rates, gears, etc. don't allow for this. While this might be a step in the right direction, there's still a lot of things that need to be changed. I guess we'll know come January 16th just what all the changes will be. Keep your fingers crossed and pray for some changes that will give us fans something that resembles racing and not parade laps.

NASCAR needs two things badly.
#1 They need the economy to turn around. This sport has always been a "Joe Sixpack, blue collar" sport. These are the guys, & gals, hardest hit.
#2 They need better racing. Opening up the rules on the COT, & letting the Crew Chiefs be innovative is a good place to start. My biggest complaint with the wings are the end plates, & the fact that the current wing seems to create lift if the car is going backwards. With the end plates, a driver can get a car almost sideways, & save it. I don't watch to see wrecks, but I've said "that even with my reflexes, I could save the current COT, if I managed to get it sideways." It's not supposed to be like that.

A better economy will put more money in the customers pockets.

Better racing will make the decision to spend it, by going to races, easier.
