What are you thinking? Those of us who sit down at their computers and opine on all things NASCAR ask ourselves this question quite often. Now I’m learning this little fraternity I’m a part of is not alone.
I was presented the darndest thing today. A list of the top NASCAR-related searches, driver searches and NASCAR-related questions on Ask.com (all together now) “The Official Search Engine of NASCAR.” The list I got was for the week of July 13-19.
Very interesting, I must say. Check this first list out:
Top 10 NASCAR-related searches on Ask.com
1. NASCAR.com
2. Indianapolis Motor Speedway
3. NASCAR Schedule
4. Tony Stewart Girlfriend
5. How Do NASCAR Drivers Use The Bathroom
6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
7. NASCAR
8. NASCAR Driver Standings
9. Jeremy Mayfield Ex- Wife
10. Jeremy Mayfield First Wife
Jeremy Mayfield’s ex-wife? Until a week ago, I didn’t even know he HAD an ex-wife. Well, a lot of people know now- before there was a Shana Mayfield, there was a Christina Mayfield.
That tells me two things: #1- People who didn’t know much about Jeremy Mayfield before this season are trying to get some insight inside his world as they grapple with the question of his innocence or guilt concerning the use of methamphetamine. #2- It tells me that there’s also a TMZ and National Enquirer element very much alive within the fan base. Tony Stewart and Dale Jr.? My gate doesn’t swing that way, but no less than my wife tells me these guys are hot.
Who are the most searched drivers on Ask.com? Glad you asked…..
Top 10 Driver Searches
1. Tony Stewart
2. Jeremy Mayfield
3. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
4. Jeff Gordon
5. Dale Earnhardt
6. Kasey Kahne
7. Mark Martin
8. Jimmie Johnson
9. Kyle Busch
10. Carl Edwards
I’d love to see what this may have looked like before the Daytona 500. I’ll bet you half the fan base didn’t even know who Jeremy Mayfield was. They sure know him now. It’s kind of sad if you think about it.
With a slight tinge of heaviness of heart, I theorize “The Intimidator” has a fan base that misses him desperately. The rest of it looks pretty similar to what I’d expect a most popular driver list to look like.
Then finally, there’s this list:
Top 10 NASCAR-related questions on Ask.com
1. How do NASCAR drivers use the bathroom?
2. What does NASCAR stand for?
3. How many times has Jeremy Mayfield been married?
4. Who won the Lifelock 400?
5. Who is Tony Stewart dating?
6. How much do NASCAR drivers get paid?
7. How do NASCAR drivers go to the bathroom?
8. At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the 1/8 mile short straight-aways between the first and second, and third and fourth turns are termed what?
9. Who holds the cup series qualifying record at Indianapolis Motor Speedway?
10. When is the next NASCAR race?
As tennis great John Mc Enroe would say, “You can’t be serious!” I had no idea that a bodily function could be that a big a deal.
It may sound crazy, but multi- million dollar marketing decisions get made based on this kind of information. Who knows? Tony Stewart might get a call from e-Harmony for a sponsorship, Mythbusters could do a show to de-bunk the notion that Mark Martin wears Depends in his race car, or a more likely possibility is that a certain dysfunctional family will get a call from Dr. Phil.
Truth is stranger than fiction.

I recently searched ask.com to find out what made Martinsville hot dogs red. I still don’t know but I want to know!
I think the Tony fans want to know who the most recent Tony girlfriend is?
All women want to know the bathroom question too. I only know the answer tho because I read it on a blog.
@Rachel. Ya mean they couldn’t help you? This is a travesty! Now I must know! I’ve done lots of racing of the two-legged kind. There’s a way to avoid “Captain Leakey” if you plan correctly. Ya still worry a bit about it though.
@Rachel At ask.com type in “what makes martinsville hot dogs red?” and you’ll get a link to a NASCAR.com Feature Story on the infamous dogs!!!
