According to the Hendrick Motorsports website, Lance Mc Grew has been named interim crew chief effective June 7th for the #88 team- the team of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Tony Eury Jr., who had been his cousin’s crew chief will move into another position- working in research and development for Hendrick Motorsports.
Team manager Brian Whitesell will crew chief this Sunday in Dover.
Owner Rick Hendrick said he spoke with Eury yesterday about a change. According to the release, Eury said he had had mixed feelings about the move but he wanted to stay on at HMS. Hendrick said the “88″ team’s performance is not “what it should be” and that making a move right now is the right decision.
Mc Grew, 41, served as crew chief for Brian Vickers during his championship run in the Busch Series in 2003.

It’s about time Hendrick made a change. After all, isn’t this the year of change.
Lance McGrew will be a tough position. I have a question about him tho. I know (and so does Joey Logan) that Zippy makes the calls and Zippy is the boss. I believe the same about Jimmie Johnsons and Chad…Chad is the boss. I believe it’s true about Mark Martin.
Can Lance be the boss of the sports most popular driver? I think it has to work that way for Dale Jr to achieve what he wants..the championship.
Also, does Lance have experience working and adjusting the COT?
I hope this works!
I guess no one will say that HMS might have got rid of the wrong Jr. on the #88 team.
I was searching for thoughts on this subject last Thursday. glad i found your site finally!
