Just last week, I saw a 300 pound bear of a man. Tee shirt with the sleeves ripped off. Wearing a Mohawk. Tats covering most of his arms. Most prominent of which was a large blacked out square with the Dale Sr. #3 in the center.
The NA$CAR image spin doctors are still trying to live down the widely shown image of the shirtless fan with the # 3 shaved in his back hair.
I sort of cringe every time I see a skinny, no ass, white trash peckerwood, wearing a NA$CAR tee shirt. Nothing wrong with these fans, but they aren’t the folks that major corporations spend 20 million a year to reach.

Having been a long time fan, (since the 70’s) I resent being stereotyped, but they are out there.

Great article! I also began watching NASCAR late. A friend took me to the first night race at Lowes. We sat in the first row of Turn 4, ate dirt all night and was hooked. I loved the All-American section of the article and applaude NASCAR for not backing down on it.

I like the “machismo” Tony Stewart statement. It is so true!!!

I am adding Jeff Gordon to the drivers list. He has a great personality, sophisticated yet humble and a great family man. He is a very impressive person.
